Chitin armor in Ark is a mid tier armor. You can unlock it at level 37, but you must first learn the prerequisite hide armor before you can unlock the chitin armor engrams. Each piece of chitin armor provides 50 armor for a total of 250 for the full set. You can find chitin armor in blue and purple supply crates.

Chitin armor has moderate physical protection, but does not have good protection against the elements. It has low cold weather protection, and makes the user more susceptible to hot weather. A full set provides +43 cold protection and -35 heat protection. This makes chitin armor a good choice for early game combat situations, but difficult for any other use.

Players considering chitin armor as an option may want to consider mixing pieces of chitin with hide or cloth armor to offset the cold and heat effects while maintaining some armor value.

How to Craft Chitin Armor

To craft chitin armor in Ark you must first reach level 37 and learn the engrams. You will also need to have learned the prerequisite hide armor in order to learn the chitin armor engrams. Chitin armor must be crafted a smithy, or on a saddle that can act as a smithy. These saddles include the Argentavis Saddle, Castoroides Saddle, and Thorny Dragon Saddle. You can also craft the armor at a Tek Replica.

To craft the full set of armor you need to obtain 82 Chitin, 40 Hide, and 18 Fiber. You can not substitute Keratin for chitin to craft the armor. Chitin can be obtained from harvesting several different creatures in Ark.
