Introduction

In order to gain access to Taedal’s Tower floor 18 you must be level 43 and have completed floor 17. On this floor you will encounter the Exploding Flame Desert Wizard. The Wizard makes use of some heavy hitting fire magic abilities, and has a very unique mechanic. You will notice a fire tornado moving across the arena quickly after the fight begins. The fire tornado is a pivotal component of being successful on this floor.

Abilities & Mechanics

The main mechanic of this fight is utilizing the flame tornado in order to launch yourself into the air to avoid being one shot and killed from one of the Desert Wizard’s abilities. During the duration of the fight you need to be aware of the the location of the flame tornado. It will move from side of the arena to the next. Once it reaches the edge of the arena it will move to your location and then past you to the other side.

If you are hit by the tornado you will take damage. However, during various stages of the encounter the mage will teleport to the middle of the arena. When this happens you need to position yourself in between the mage and the fire tornado. Shortly after the boss teleports to the middle she will cast some sand whirlpools on your location.

The location of these are incredibly important. You want the flame tornado to move through one of the whirlpool. This is why you position yourself in between the boss and the tornado. This way the tornado will be sure to move through the whirlpool. Once the tornado moves through the whirlpool it will grow much larger. If you run into the larger tornado you will be launched high into the air.

Shortly after the mage casts the sand whirlpools she will fill the vast majority of the arena with a fire AoE. If you miss being launched into the air you will be stuck in the AoE and die before you can make your way to the safe location. The only way to survive is to be launched and fly down to the safe area.

Abilities

If you can master this mechanic you will be well on you way to defeating Taedal’s Tower floor 18. However, there are some other abilities that you need to be aware of as well.

  • Fire Tornado – The boss summons a fire tornado into the arena. It will move from one side of the arena to the other. Once it reaches the edge it will head toward your location and then past you to the other side of the arena. If you are hit you will take damage.
  • Fireball – The boss with throw a fireball at you. This ability can be blocked. Pay attention to the purple block circle in order to negate the damage.
  • Flamethrower – The Wizard will move backward away from you. There will then be several rows of fire along the ground in a cone shape in front of her. She will then repeat the process causing another wave of fire. When this happens make sure you are close to the boss. The easiest way to avoid this is by staying close and circling the boss until the second wave of fire is complete. If you are far away from the boss it becomes much harder to didge because the area affected is much larger.
  • Firestorm – This is the main mechanic explained above. The boss will teleport to the middle of the arena. Make sure you position yourself between the boss and the fire tornado. The Wizard will cast 2 sand whirlwinds on your location. She will cast one and then a few seconds later cast another. Being in between the fire tornado and boss will ensure the fire tornado goes through the sand whirlwinds. When this happens run into the large fire tornado to be launched into the air. Then, morph and land in the safe area.
