#10. Smallland

Developed by Merge Games, Smallland is a big adventure, on a tiny scale. This Multiplayer Survival game gives me memories of watching The Bugs life as a kid. What an awesome movie that was. You can build bases, shelters, complete quests, tame creatures to ride and also fight other players.

The game has been in development for a few years now. With its 2021 deadline missed, Smallland looks to be in Early Access late 2022.

#9. Renown

People have dubbed Renown Medieval rust, Renown takes the most enjoyable and popular aspects from contemporary open world survival games and combines them with close, skill-based combat. Now I know what you’re thinking, we’ve already played Chivalry & Mordau, why would I play this!?

Renown’s building and raiding mechanics actually look fantastic. It’s been confirmed that servers will be 100 players and will wipe on a weekly basis. This means gathering your materials and building your castle will be a quick part of the game, ready war! It is planned to release late 2022 but you can download a demo of Renown now.

#8. Rooted

Yes, yet another post apocalyptic survival game, but my gosh Rooted looks stunning. They have a Recovery and repair system at the heart of this Top 10 NEW Survival Game. The world evolves and adapts depending on the number of players, Rooted is one to keep an eye one.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, with stunning graphics and beautiful animations, Unfortunately the game is TBA but I hope this game will surprise a lot of people and be a real crowd pleaser and that’s why it’s found a spot in our Top 10 Survival Games of 2022.

#7. Derelicts

Derelicts has been in solo Development by a man named Romain. It is a Co-Op survival game which instantly got my Wishlist vote! Years after an ancient and enigmatic mechanism flooded the earth with Radiation, you and your friends have to start from scratch after crashing your space shuttle on earth!

Explore, build a base and then defend it against mutated animals and humans! This really looks like a true Top Survival game.

I used to love building bases and treehouses as a kid. This game has features that look intricate and stunning. You use the power of wind, sun and water to get your base up and running! You can build wooden gutters to transport your logs to your sawmills automating your system to make planks.

These sorts of great features is why we’ve given it a spot in our Top 10 Survival games of 2022!

Find yourself a Doggy friend and be ready for the forces of nature which may affect your daily life in Derelicts. We should get confirmation of the release date sometime in the next few months.

#6. Retreat to Enen

This game has tonnes of potential, set in the year 3600 CE (I had to google what time frame this is, I think even Google got confused), but turning back from the brink of extinction, humans have chosen a path of healing, peace and reverence.

Retreat to Enen is clearly one that will relax you, as you explore the world of Enen you will be challenged to forage for food, hunt game and collect supplies to build your home. Explore tropical beaches and dive into breath-taking underwater environments.

Enen has some advanced weather systems which may challenge your survival skills. It also has some in game medication which you can participate in!

#5. V Rising

V Rising, this game has had an incredible launch this year. Over 2 million gamers looking to become the next Dracula in their first month of launch. This open world Vampire survival game ticks all the right boxes.

Avoid the light, raise your castle, hunt down dangerous creatures and acquire their powers but sucking their blood & compete or cooperate as your master your vampire.

You can learn and master deadly weapons and abilities. Craft and build a castle Dracula would be proud of and take down other Vampires.

Developed by Stunlock Studios who you may remember from Battlerite, took a slightly different direction with V Rising but kept some of the core features from Battlerite, such as the movement.

#4. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl

I’m sure you’ve heard of the Stalker series, well its back again with a ton of amazing features. Set in the time of arguably one of the worst disasters the world has ever seen, this open world next game is going to impress even those of you who don’t get impressed easily!

Unveil your own epic story as you make your way to the heart of Chernobyl and Make your decisions wisely as Violent mutants and deadly anomalies can alter your fate! You will have 64 square km to explore with a variety of environments, weapons and AI. S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is set to release in 2023 as a single player with multiplayer being added as a free update soon after!

#3. Dead Matter

A Deadly virus spread across the Globe in a matter of weeks. The world’s governments tried to contain the virus but it was too late. Once infected with the virus, subjects were turned into violent husks of their former selves.

In Dead matter it’s been two weeks since the virus spread into the Rocky Mountains, since then, a majority of people living there have got infected. You and a few other survivors are the only ones left, it’s you vs the world!

Dead Matter seems to have all the next gen features you would want to see if we are to get another Zombie style survival game. The game has been in Development from around 2016 but has finally got a n Early Access release date of 2022!

#2. Nightingale

You are stranded beyond our world, cut off by the collapse of the arcane portal network. You are left fighting to survive in a labyrinth of beautiful and dangerous fae realms. Your goal, to become a skilled Realmwalker!

Nightingale is a 1st person PVE open world survival crafting game which can be played solo or with friends. You will face different challenges in the different realms.

Cook meals, build shelter and defeat a variety of different creatures to kill you in the forests, swaps, deserts and jungles!

The building looks impressive and from the information we have, probably one of the best systems I’ve seen in a game, you can even recruit NPC’s to help expand your base!

The graphics look incredible, the lighting is beautiful and it really does look polished and apparently the way you interact with AI can have an effect on how they treat you…

Set to release in Early access in Q4 of 2022

#1. Sons of the Forest

All the games on this list look insane, but Sons of the Forest has taken the top spot this time, it is a Survival Horror game and sequel to the largely popular “The Forest”, which had over 10 million downloads.

Sons of the Forest is looking to release in October 2022.

To find a missing Billionaire, your sent to a remote island. There, you find yourself in a cannibal-infested Hellscape! You will craft, build and explore the island while struggling to survive the ever-changing seasons, alone, or with friends. Pluck fresh salmon directly from streams in spring and summer. Collect and store meat for the cold winter months. You are not alone on this island, as winter rolls in and food and resources become scarce you won’t be the only one looking for a meal.
